Yep, that's him. He's famously quoted for saying "God is dead" but it's more than that, the point is that "god is dead and we killed him" as a result of the Enlightenment and the triumph of scientific theory and thought. It's basically the rejection of universal and moral law. Though it's applied almost exclusively to Christian religion and the sects under it. He liked Buddhism just fine.
He admired the Greeks for one. He was particularly fond of Greek tragedy plays. According to some of the MANY things he said, myth, in some ways, was the expression of needs of the community.
There's a lot more but yeah, Nietzche had whole treatises on Greek myth and plays.
Huh, I might have to look into some of his stuff. I spent some of my early years growing up in Italy, then found out that Greek deities are real where I come from. It'd be cool to see how this guy saw it all.
If they have his literature here, then yeah, I would recommend him. I like a lot of his philosophies. Though, if Greek gods are real in your world, freedom from the shadow of God is going to likely come across as foolish and he's not.
The omnis could sort of be considered the internet here, it stores a lot of different media. If someone has read a book or seen a video, other people can search for it.
Yeah, your omni will translate it for you. Mine actually translates written text into ancient Greek because otherwise letters get all mixed up in my head. Your texts are coming to me in Greek, and I'm writing back in that language.
... Interesting. And it does that for speech too, I'm assuming, seeing as I didn't switch out of Japanese earlier and I still understood everyone who replied.
Yep, universal translator. It might work even when you aren't using the omni to talk to someone, but doing it in person. One of my cooking partners is Japanese, but I've never had trouble understanding her.
You can teach people to read and write in other languages, and sort of override the omni's auto-translation abilities, if that's your intent. A few people seem to be from Japan, most seem to be different versions.
I was in New York last, but I've been all over. A device like the omni would have come in handy.
Trust me when they say they're not from my version of it. [Besides lack of cat ears and tails in this place, the people from other Japans seem to be happy and well adjusted.]
That's fair. There doesn't seem to be anyone from my world here either. [ The one person who had been was gone before he got here, apparently. ]
No, but I ended up in China once. And some places over in Europe. Know a few words in a bunch of languages, just in case I accidentally end up somewhere.
China was an accident, back when I was still learning how to use my powers. If I try to shadow travel when tired, I could end up anywhere, so I figured knowing how to say a few things in various languages would be good. But it's not always an exact thing, it helps if I've been there before.
It gets more dangerous for me the further I go and the more people I take, but yeah. I never have to worry about a passport or using some vehicle to get there.
Honestly, it's kind of nice to have that sort of freedom.
